Wandering But Not Lost

Portland, Oregon

July 14, 2024

We headed out of Washington around 11 and drove a few hours to Portland. We stayed with our friends Trung and Yeng who we have been trying to visit for years. They graciously hosted us, allowed us to do laundry and showed us some amazing things outside of the city. While driving we were able to see Mt. Hood and Mt. Saint Helen.

We spent the afternoon exploring waterfalls and the kids waded in the cold water. Before checking out any waterfalls they took us up to Vista House at Crown Point where it felt like we could see forever. The views were stunning no matter where we went. They saved the big waterfall for last and if you look closely, you can see us up on that bridge. We ended the night with a yummy pasta dinner and ice cream from Salty & Straw.

This morning we visited with my friend Jake who I have known since high school. We were able to meet his wife and daughter and spend a little time catching up, which was nice. Then Trung and Yeng took us out to the coast. Our first stop was to Haystack Rock which you would have seen in Goonies. Then we made several more stops to check out the view and spent a lovely afternoon on the beach.Lilly made sand cookies, Louie braved the water, the kids flew kites and the girls had a blast playing in the sand.

Later in the day we headed to Tillamook and visited the cheese factory. We learned how everything was made, tasted cheese and pretended to milk a cow. We decided to have dinner there which was delicious. Tomorrow will be a long day of driving but it should provide some pretty epic scenery!
