Eureka Springs, Arkansas

When I first started planning this trip, I didn’t know where we were going to stay in Arkansas. I came across Eureka Springs by accident and ended up adding an extra day here because it was so cute. I am so glad I did! We stayed in the historic Basin Hotel which was built in 1905 near the Basin Spring. There are several springs in the area and they have been known for their healing properties for over 100 years. The hotel definitely seemed like it could be haunted and there were lots of stories about spirits in the area. Our room had a jacuzzi tub, which we all took advantage of. The hotel had an amazing game room, bar and balcony restaurant. We spent a lot of time taking advantage of the amenities that the hotel offered, such as a scavenger hunt, free Prosecco and a free wine tasting in their hidden speakeasy. The speakeasy was actually hidden underground and you had to take a ladder through a hole in the floor to access it!

Even the ballroom had some fascinating history. It. It was called Barefoot Ballroom because a couple had won a radio show where they had their honeymoon paid for as long as they did the entire thing barefoot. The hotel ran with the concept and still has a Barefoot Ball today. Also, at one point Elvis had decided to put one of his cars in it as an art piece. However, they didn’t take the engine out and eventually the floor fell through, ruining the car.

On Monday I overcame another fear and we went gem-mining and zip-lining through the mountains. It was so much fun and I can’t wait to do it again! We knocked around town, found a piece of art we have been looking for for a while and had the best time exploring the city. It was a hidden gem that we will definitely visit again.

Before leaving Arkansas we had to stop by the Christ of the Ozarks. This giant statue of Jesus was incredible. We didn’t have time to explore the entire village but we did snag a few photos.
