Wandering But Not Lost

Kansas City, Missouri

July 3, 2024

After being so busy for the last few days we were excited to have a couple days to rest. We arrived at our hotel in Kansas City, Missouri late Tuesday night and we were pleasantly surprised at how nice the hotel was. The hotel itself had an arcade, restaurant, made to order breakfast and an evening reception with free drinks and snacks. I love staying at Embassy Suites because they are always so nice! The hotel also had two indoor pools and a hot tub.

Luckily, we were able to take advantage of all the hotel had to offer since Vinny had to work all day on Wednesday. I was able to take the kids swimming, play at the arcade and even do our laundry while we were there.

Of course we couldn’t visit Kansas City without a quick trip to the Chiefs stadium. You know, just in case Taylor Swift was there.

Our highlight of Kansas City was The Rabbit Hole museum. If you are ever in the area and have kids, don’t sleep on this! As an early childhood educator I was really excited to step into some of my favorite books and become part of the story. The museum itself doesn’t have a sign and when we pulled in to the parking lot, I wasn’t sure we were on the right place. However, I saw kids walking around so I figured we were there. Once we got out of the car I noticed there were rabbit tracks painted on the sidewalk that said to follow them. I think not having a sign is all part of the “down the rabbit hole” concept.

Once inside we had to climb down a “rabbit hole” and through lit up tunnels with words from different stories on the walls. After a few minutes, the tunnel opened up to a world full of larger than life stories. It was AMAZING! We had the best time playing all afternoon.

We were able to finish the evening playing pool and relaxing before hitting the road again. We didn’t make it to Gates BBQ when they were open, but did make a stop on our way out for a photo and picked up some BBQ sauce. We have very fond memories of late nights in our 20’s eating fries dipped in Gates BBQ sauce, so we couldn’t pass up stopping by.
