Kansas City, Kansas
July 4, 2024

Happy 4th of July! We had a busy day with several stops along the way. Our first stop was in Kansas City, Kansas at the Kaw Point. Louie loves history and is fascinated by the Lewis and Clark expedition see we wanted to check out part of the Lewis and Clark trail. This point in Kansas is where the Missouri River and the Kansas River meet and where Lewis and Clark stopped to explore the land in the area.

Des Moines, Iowa

After leaving Kansas we headed to Iowa where we stopped at the Pappajohn Sculpture Park. And to answer your question, no, it has nothing to do with the pizza company. The sculptors are made by various artists and were so neat to explore. My favorite was the large person made out of letters and the kids both really liked the spider. Vinny really liked the skinny bunny.

As we were driving through Iowa, we were fascinated by all the windmills. The pictures don’t to justice to how massive they were. We also saw one of the Bridges of Madison County along the way.

Omaha, Nebraska

We finally arrived at our last destination of the day, Omaha, Nebraska. We attended their 4th of July celebration where the symphony was playing, kids were running and fireworks were booming. Omaha has AMAZING playgrounds and the kids had so much fun climbing, sliding and running around the park. They have these big slides in the middle of downtown that the kids loved going down.

Our hotel room was on the 17th floor so by the time we got back to the room it was like we had our own citywide fireworks show. It was incredible to see all the fireworks on display across the city.
The next day (July 5) we explored Omaha and absolutely fell in love. It is such a beautiful city filled with lovely restaurants, stores and so many kind people. We wandered around, enjoyed lunch and found another awesome park to play at before hitting the road. If it weren’t for the snow, I would consider moving to Omaha. I really loved everything we experienced there.
